Sovereign Grace Church offers various opportunities to grow in God’s grace through learning more about the God we love and serve.
Sunday School
“Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)
While the majority of biblical instruction takes place in the home, we believe that the covenant community can be a great help in educating our children. We love to see the Lord use our Christian brothers and sisters to teach and challenge our children in the scriptures and in their faith.
Each Sunday morning following our worship service and short time of fellowship, everyone gathers for Sunday school. This usually begins around 11:40 with everyone meeting together to learn (memorize) the First Catechism and select scripture verses. Even the very youngest of the children can tell you that God made them, and he made them for his own glory. After this brief time of memory work the children are excused to classes that are appropriate for their grade level. We also have an adult Sunday school class that is either studying a book of the Bible or a topical study on Christian doctrine. As the need arises we are glad to offer an inquirers class to introduce individuals to what our church believes and teaches.
Mid Week Bible Studies and Prayer
“Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” (Acts 17:11)
From February to May and September to November the church gathers on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm in the homes of church members who live throughout the area. There are studies in Hughson, Modesto and Turlock.
From June to August the church gathers at the Hughson Church building for Bible study and prayer on Wednesday evenings. For the summer, the children enthusiastically enjoy a time of study and games called Kids Club. The adults spend time praying for the needs of the church and studying scripture.
Monthly Fellowship Dinner
On the second Sunday of each month the church gathers after Sunday school for a good old fashioned fellowship meal. Each family brings a main dish and salad or dessert to share. Some months these dinners are “themed” to add a little variety to the meals. All visitors are invited to stay. There is always plenty of food!
